STRATEGI PENINGKATAN PENDAPATAN PETANI LABUSIAM (SechiumEdule) DI DESA SUKAMULYA KECAMATAN TALEGONG KABUPATEN GARUT

Abstract

Chayote cultivation is one of the income sources for farmers in addition to other farming activities. However, the income obtained from chayote farming is still relatively low; therefore, appropriate strategies are required to increase income and improve farmers’ welfare. This study aims to formulate strategies to increase income from chayote cultivation. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a saturated sampling (census) approach, involving all chayote farmers in Sukamulya Village, Talegong District, Garut Regency. The data consisted of primary and secondary data. Data analysis was conducted using the SWOT analysis method. The results show that the IFAS matrix is dominated by strength factors with a score of 2.49, while weakness factors scored 1.20, resulting in a difference of 1.29. Meanwhile, the EFAS matrix is dominated by opportunity factors with a score of 2.31, compared to threat factors with a score of 1.90, resulting in a difference of 0.41. Based on the SWOT analysis, the appropriate strategy for chayote farming is an aggressive strategy located in Quadrant I. This SO strategy focuses on utilizing existing strengths and exploiting available opportunities to increase farmers’ income.
