Abstract

Epiphytic Ficus sp. is one of the woody weeds that can lower agricultural yield and commonly infest oil palm trunks. In addition to competing with the host plant for resources like light, water, and growing space, this epiphyte may also obstruct plantation upkeep operations. Its powerful, difficult-to-reach root system and great regenerating capacity make mechanical control futile. In order to control epiphytic Ficus sp. in oil palm plantations at Afdeling 19 of PT Wanasawit Subur Lestari, this study compared root infusion and stem injection techniques and assessed various dosages of 2,4-D dimethyl amine. Herbicide dosage (20%, 30%, and 40%) and delivery technique (root infusion and stem injection) were the two elements that determined the experiment's factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Six treatment combinations were produced as a result, and each was triple-replicated. The proportion of epiphyte mortality was the main metric used in the 30-day observations that followed application. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test were used to examine the data at a significance level of 5%. The greatest epiphyte death was seen at a herbicide dosage of 40%. The best outcomes were obtained when a 40% dose was paired with stem injection; stem injection proved to be more effective than root infusion. As a result, this strategy is suggested as the best way to manage epiphytic Ficus sp. on oil palm fields
