Abstract

Insects are the organisms with the highest species diversity in the world. Universitas Sali Al-Aitaam is situated in Cipagalo Village, Bandung Regency, surrounded by various ecosystem types, including rice fields, farmland, gardens, and residential settlements. The area in Cipagalo Village has undergone significant changes in land use, transitioning from agricultural to residential areas. These changes have created a heterogeneous and dynamic ecosystem, which may influence the diversity of insect species inhabiting the area. This study employed field observation methods by directly collecting insect specimens to assess population diversity using yellow sticky traps and pheromone-based attractant traps. The effectiveness of each trap was evaluated 96 hours after installation. Captured insects were then identified down to the species level. Observational results showed that yellow sticky traps captured a more diverse range of insect species compared to attractant traps. Yellow sticky traps captured 13 insect species, comprising 8 pest species, 2 predator species, 1 pollinator species, and 2 decomposer species. In contrast, attractant traps only captured 4 pest species. Based on the Margalef Species Richness Index (R1), the yellow sticky traps had a value of 1.6, while the attractant traps had a value of 0.5, indicating a low level of species richness. The Jaccard Similarity Index (Cj) yielded a value of 0.308, suggesting a relatively low similarity in insect species composition between the two types of traps. Overall, findings from both trap types indicate that the environment at Universitas Sali Al-Aitaam has a complex habitat structure that supports diverse insect functional groups.
