Abstract

Hydroponics is an agricultural method that uses water and nutrient solutions as a growing medium, without involving soil. This method is considered efficient and environmentally friendly, especially in areas with limited land. In addition, hydroponics opens up opportunities for communities, including women's groups, to play an active role in meeting household food needs. In Margahurip Village, Banjaran District, Bandung Regency, there is an example of the successful use of hydroponics in an area with limited land. Hydroponics activities there have developed into a collective movement that provides economic, environmental, and social benefits. The method used in this study was a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with 15 informants consisting of farmer group leaders, agricultural extension workers, and local residents. The results of this study show that hydroponic activities can be sustainable thanks to strong cooperation, the active role of the village government, the support of extension workers, and the discipline and commitment of members. In addition to producing healthy food, these activities also strengthen social solidarity and provide a concrete example of how local communities can build food security. This study can also be used as teaching material for high schools in contextual geography lessons.
