THE USE OF STORYBOARD TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT

Abstract

This study entitled “The use of storyboard to improve students’ ability in writing recount text” is purposed to know the effectiveness of storyboard in writing recount text and to know students’ responses toward storyboard. The respondents of this research are 22 students of eighth grade of SMP Handayani 1 Banjaran. An experiment method is applied for this research and the data are obtained from pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire from the experimental and control group. After giving the post-test the researcher analyzes the data by using the formula of t-test or independent group. With the df = N1 + N2 – 2 = 44 – 2= 42, At P = 0.05 of two tailed of significance, the critical value of t is 2.021. as the value of t / to is higher or bigger than that of the t-critical (2.664 > 2.021), therefore Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This research also analyzed the data using dependent test. With the df = N (N – 1) = 22 (22 - 1) = 21, at P. 0.05 of two tailed significant, the critical value of t (3.167 > 2.080). therefore, null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This means that the use of storyboard to improve students’ ability in writing recount text is effective. Additionally the students’ responses to the use of storyboard to improve students’ ability in writing recount text are good and positive.
