Abstract

Translation is changing an activity of changing a language into another language spoken or written. Translation’s always been international since its popularity since 1900s year. It has become something which affects the development of world literature. This research was conducted to identify the translation methods used by the translator in translating the movie script “The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe” to describe the methods used from the English original version and the
Indonesian translation of the movie script. The translation method used in this research was proposed by Newmark. This research applied qualitative method to describe the aims of this study. The data were analyzed by comparing the English novel and its Indonesian translation. The result of the study showed that there were 100 data of the dialogues, eight
methods were used to translate movie script into Indonesian; these include word-for-word translation, literal translation, faithful translation, semantic translation, adaptation translation, free translation, idiomatic translation, and communicative translation, the most translation method used was word for word translation method.
