Abstract

School dropout is a condition in which children of school age cease their educational activities, whether in formal or informal education, before acquiring sufficient knowledge to survive in society. In Ciparay Village, Ciparay Subdistrict, Bandung Regency, school dropouts were found among school-age children. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify and analyse the distribution of school dropouts, the factors that caused them to drop out, and the efforts made by parents to deal with their children who had dropped out of school in Ciparay Village. The research approach used was quantitative with a descriptive survey method. The data used were primary data obtained through structured interviews and closed questionnaires, as well as secondary data obtained from relevant agencies. Data processing was carried out through tabulation and analysed using percentage tables. The results of the study show that there are 40 school dropouts in Ciparay Village spread across 5 neighbourhoods, namely RW 02 [Hujung Wetan], RW 06 [Bojong], RW 07 [Parigi], RW 08 [Babakan Caringin Wetan], and RW 10 [Babakan Caringin Kaler]. The reasons/causes for children deciding to drop out of school were low interest in learning, family economic conditions, social environment, and marriage. Some efforts to address this issue include counselling, re-enrolling the child in school, and providing support to help the child recover and succeed in their current activities.
